Firebacks & Heat Shields
Firebacks & Heat Shields
In Europe people learned long ago if they put a heavy piece of metal in the back of the fireplace it would protect the back firewall from intense heat damage and recapture a great amount of heat by radiating it back into the room instead of allowing it to escape up the chimney. They used heavy cast iron and as times progressed added designs to the plates that told of special moments or seasons in their lives. In Ireland today they still use their fireplaces for heat and cooking and you will find a fireback in most of them.
We are using a page out of the past and offer a new version of the fireback which is made of .304 gauge stainless steel. It is more economical and less costly to ship than traditional heavy cast iron firebacks. Lighter in weight but comparable in durability and better reflective properties are the advantages you get with the new version. Hundreds of customers are reaping the extra warmth, protection and energy savings these beauties provide.
Ours come in 5 sizes to fit almost any size fireplace. The 15"x15" and 16"x18" are primarily used for smaller prefab fireplaces with the 20"x20", 24"x24", and 27"x27" for larger masonry fireplaces. They come in three styles…plain stainless steel, etched with a pair of wheat leaves or painted black. Our most popular model is the etched wheat leaves.
Brand new the fireback is silver and turns a copper hue when a fire is burned. Then with each subsequent fire the fireback goes black when the fire dies out. when the fire is restarted the black burns off and the copper hue is exhibited.
These firebacks are economically priced and installation is a breeze. Included are a pair of angled bracket pieces are placed on the firebox floor to the rear. The Heat Shield is placed into the slots of the angle bracket and it supports the heat shield and tilts it to the proper angle for maximum efficiency. You will get from 10-40% more heat from your fireplace. Our customers love them!!! They are warranted against burnout for 5 years. We carry several on the truck with us as well as a sample to show you how heavy they are.
We also have the more traditional heavy weight cast iron firebacks. We have three choices for you.
